Basel Convention Regional Centres for Training and Technology Transfer (BCRCs)

The Centre actively participated in the important activities such as:

In time from 2000 until June 2007 the B CRC organized other 7 training workshops in close collaboration with the Secretariat of the Basel Convention in Geneva.
Fore mentioned training workshops were focused on the obligations and steps needed for ratification and implementation of the Stockholm Convention on POPs and the Rotterdam Convention on Prior Informed Consent (PIC), on strengthening of co-operation based on Chemical and Hazardous Wastes Conventions, on comparative analysis of international waste lists on control systems and on the different international waste lists and control systems for transport of hazardous wastes currently in force, on preparation of a regional approach for the Environmentally Sound Management of POPs wastes, on obtained knowledge on cleaner production and waste minimization in Central and Eastern Europe, promoting ratification of the Basel Protocol on Liability and Compensation for damage resulting from transboundary movements of hazardous wastes and their disposal, on Waste lubricating oil management and on Illegal traffic and on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment and on the environmentally sound management of used and end-of-life mobile phones according to Basel Convention guidelines, on waste and environmentally sound management of hazardous healthcare waste focused also on waste containing mercury.

In time from 1997 until 2000 the BCRC held 9 training courses on both legal/institutional and technical aspects of implementing the Convention. Many training courses were accompanied by on-site study tours.

From 1997 until 2006 the Basel Convention Regional Centre managed and realized eight projects.

The centre has also undertaken case studies and issued Newsletters, which have been disseminated to all countries in the region, made available at the fourth meeting of the Conference of the Parties and at other meetings of the Secretariat of the Basel Convention.
